Help needed for Observation trail

CARSON — Volunteers are needed on June 19 and 20 to restore a section of Observation trail in the Trapper Creek Wilderness of the Gifford Pinchot National Forest.

Organized by the Washington Trails Association, the work party will involve a round-trip hike of about six miles.

Ryan Ojerio, WTA regional coordinator, said volunteers are needed for one or both days.

Tools and instruction are provided. There will be overnight camping and a potluck on Saturday.

Workers also are needed June 24 to complete the Hardy Creek trail in Beacon Rock State Park and June 25-28 to backpack and repair the Loowit trail No. 216 on Mount St. Helens.

Flyfishers meet Wednesday

CAMAS — The Clark-Skamania Flyfishers will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Camas Meadows Golf Club, 4105 N.W. Camas Meadows Drive.

Guides Scott and Richard Wolfe from Big-K Ranch near Elkton, Ore., will be the guest speakers. They will discuss smallmouth bass fishing in the Umpqua River

The public is welcome.

Natural area tours slated June 19

Outings open to the public to Camas Meadows and Table Mountain natural areas are scheduled June 19 by the Washington Department of Natural Resources.

The DNR is initiating Natural Areas Appreciation Day.

The Camas Meadows outing will involve a work party to clear small pine trees from 9 a.m. until noon, then a wildflower walk from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Table Mountain trip is steep eight-mile round trip in the Columbia Gorge with some trail clearing and light work.
