Driver in Portland bus accident on workers comp

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- The TriMet driver who was behind the wheel in April when a bus ran down five pedestrians is now on workers compensation.

The Oregonian reports Sandi Day had been on paid administrative leave and TriMet officials didn't say why she applied for workers comp, which pays employees for work-related injuries or illness.

Day was cleared of criminal wrongdoing, but she was cited for six traffic violations in the accident that killed two people.

TriMet General Manager Fred Hansen told the board Wednesday Day would not be allowed to drive a bus again until police conclude their accident report and the transit agency conducts its own investigation.
