JOHANNESBURG (AP) — FIFA president Sepp Blatter says he will seek re-election for another four-year term.

Blatter closed the annual FIFA Congress on Thursday telling delegates he would stand again in 2011, and will continue putting his “strength, energy, experience and passion” into soccer if they want him.

His offer was met with applause.

The 74-year-old Blatter will stand for re-election at a meeting of soccer’s governing body scheduled next June in FIFA’s home city of Zurich, Switzerland.

Blatter was elected FIFA president in 1998 and won a fierce re-election fight in 2002 before being returned unopposed in 2007. Under the Swiss official’s leadership, FIFA has built up reserves of $1 billion thanks to the World Cup’s commercial success.
