LONDON (AP) — Britain’s sports minister says the 2012 London Olympics may not escape more budget cuts as the new coalition government seeks to slash public spending.

Hugh Robertson said he could not guarantee the Olympic budget would be spared when the government’s public spending review begins in earnest in the fall.

The Olympic Delivery Authority, the body responsible for building the venues for the games, was told last month its funding would be cut by $39.5 million.

Robertson said Thursday he was confident London would still be capable of staging a successful Olympics.

He announced several changes to British sports administration, including a pledge that sports would receive an increased share of national lottery funds by 2012.
