SEDRO-WOOLLEY, Wash. (AP) — A man fatally shot by officers responding to an espresso stand robbery in Sedro-Woolley was identified Thursday as 34-year-old Michael W. Ballou.

Skagit County Coroner Daniel Dempsey says an autopsy showed the Sedro-Woolley man died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Washington State Patrol Trooper Keith Leary says the State Patrol is continuing its investigation of Tuesday’s shooting. Leary has said the holdup note handed to a barista implied that the robber had a gun.

Responding officers tracked a man who hid in some bushes. Leary says the man failed to follow commands to surrender. A Sedro-Woolley police officer and a Skagit County sheriff’s deputy both fired at the man. Leary says a knife but no gun was found on the body.
