OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Washington schools that want to save money in energy and operational costs have been invited to apply for a state energy grant.

Gov. Chris Gregoire and Superintendent of Public Instruction Randy Dorn say $100 million is available for public schools that want to do projects that improve their energy efficiency. Some money is available for colleges as well.

Projects that qualify include new lighting, windows and insulation, as well as new or upgraded heating and cooling systems.

The governor says she wants to stimulate the economy by creating jobs, and construction projects put people to work right away.
