PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A man imprisoned for rape since 1989 was sentenced Friday to another 20 years in prison for the murder of a Portland woman in 1987.
The killing of Nancy Converse remained unsolved until cold case detectives reopened the case in 2006. They linked 67-year-old James Owens to the victim through DNA evidence.
Police said the 42-year-old woman was strangled sometime between January 31, and February 2, 1987. Her body was found in her north Portland apartment.
