CAMAS — After a year of talks with Georgia-Pacific, Camas mill workers agreed to a five-year contract in May, said Ken Smith, a union representative of the Association of Western Pulp & Paper Workers Local 5.
Health care benefits and contract language were the main sticking issue, Smith said. The union represents roughly 417 hourly paid mill workers. In February, union members gave permission to strike over the unsettled contract.
The contract was ratified with a simple majority vote, Smith said. “We continued to meet and had a federal mediator come in,” he said.
