Masai of Kenya wins New York Mini 10K

NEW YORK (AP) — Linet Masai of Kenya ran to a commanding victory over countrywoman Emily Chebet in the New York Mini 10K in Central Park on Saturday.

The 10,000-meter world champion finished in 30 minutes, 48 seconds in her American road racing debut. Her time was 19 seconds off the course record set by Asmae Leghzaoui in 2002 and one of only four sub-31:00 performances in the event’s 39 years.

Chebet crossed in 31:13, followed by Werknesh Kidane of Ethiopia in 31:18.

Marathon world-record holder Paul Radcliffe of England, who is in her 25th week of pregnancy, finished in an unofficial time of 44:36.

Magdalena Lewy Boulet of Oakland, Calif., was the top American, finishing 11th in 33:25.
