ASCOT, England (AP) — Champion mare Goldikova has won the Queen Anne Stakes on opening day at Royal Ascot, beating Paco Boy by a neck for her sixth victory over male horses.

Goldikova held off a late challenge by Paco Boy in her debut at the prestigious meet Tuesday.

Goldikova was the 11-8 favorite in the field of nine and now has 12 wins in 17 career starts.

She is trained by Freddie Head and ridden by Olivier Peslier. The 5-year-old Goldikova is a two-time Breeders’ Cup Mile winner, and won the 2009 Eclipse Award as the top female turf horse.
