SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) — The Springfield School District is joining neighboring Eugene and other school districts around the state to cut back by shortening the school calendar.
The Springfield school board on Monday ratified a package of concessions with all three employee groups totaling $2.66 million, and will tap reserves for another $1.6 million to meet its 2010-11 budget.
The district reduced the instructional year by five days last year, then tried to add them back for the 2010-11 year. But Monday’s decision means students will again lose all five of those days, plus one more.
In addition, teachers will lose nearly $300,000 for training and conferences while administrators and other managerial employees agreed to take seven furlough days and a $26,000 cut in their training budget.
