WIMBLEDON, England (AP) — Roger Federer has been seeded No. 1 for Wimbledon ahead of Rafael Nadal.

Federer, a six-time Wimbledon champion, received the top seeding Wednesday even though Nadal recently supplanted him as No. 1 in the world rankings. Federer dropped to No. 2.

Wimbledon uses its discretion to seed players based on their grass-court record.

Wimbledon says the Federer-Nadal seeding order has “no practical effect” since they remain the leading seeded players in each half of the draw.

Novak Djokovic is seeded No. 4, and Andy Murray No. 5.

The women’s seedings followed the world rankings, with Serena Williams at No. 1 and sister Venus at No. 2.

The grass-court Grand Slam starts Monday.
