SEATTLE (AP) — The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded nearly $33 million to 29 public housing authorities in Washington state for major capital improvements.
HUD officials in Washington, D.C., said Thursday the funding will also stimulate the economy and create jobs.
The federal money can be used to make large-scale improvements such as new roofs and to make energy-efficient upgrades to replace old plumbing and electrical systems.
The housing authority of Seattle got $13.6 million. The housing authority of King County received $6 million and the housing authority in Tacoma got $3.8 million.
