SPRINGFIELD, Ore. (AP) — A human jaw bone found on an island in the McKenzie River near Springfield has launched a search for more remains.

The Lane County sheriff’s office told KATU-TV that a dive team and search crew are on the scene.

Investigators say it is still too early to tell if the remains belong to a man or woman.

But they say the bones have been there for a while, maybe up to 10 years.
