ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — The Washington Redskins are trying to make up with their past.

The team hosted dozens of former greats for a barbecue at Wednesday’s minicamp practice. For many of the former players, the event was a major first step to heal a breech between team and alumni that has developed under owner Dan Snyder.

Players told stories of not feeling welcome at Redskins Park in recent years, but new general manager Bruce Allen has changed the atmosphere. Allen is the son of 1970s Redskins Hall of Fame coach George Allen.

Snyder told The Associated Press that the event gives the team a chance to “embrace the relationship” with its former greats.
