COOS BAY, Ore. (AP) — A sale of county-owned timber has added $2.5 million to Coos County’s general fund.
The World newspaper of Coos Bay reports that timber companies bid on four of five advertised lots.
The unclaimed lot will stay on sale for another month. If sold, it would likely lift timber revenue to $3 million in the coastal county.
County commissioners said this winter they were prepared to go a second consecutive year without a sale if timber prices did not improve. But prices increased following the earthquake in Chile and a shortage of white woods used for making plywood.
