EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — The mother of a 16-year-old teen who allegedly threw himself from the second floor of a juvenile detention facility has filed a $2 million lawsuit against Lane County, saying detention center employees knew her son was suicidal.

The Eugene Register-Guard reports that the boy was in satisfactory condition at Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend. His mother filed the lawsuit last Thursday.

However, the lawsuit claims that a worker at Lane County Juvenile Justice Center left her son unattended, even though he was on suicide watch because of “extreme emotional disturbance and temporary mental illness.”

County officials declined to comment on the lawsuit.

The mother seeks $1 million in economic damages and $1 million in non-economic damages.
