Utility to release more water from N. Idaho dam

POST FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Avista Corp. has decided to release more water at its dam in Post Falls to help lower rising water levels at Lake Coeur d’Alene.

Utility officials say heavy rainfall in the last 24 hours has swelled lake to levels higher than the normal levels required for the summer recreation season.

The extra water will add to flows in the Spokane River, already flowing at more than 15,000 cubic feet per second below the dam.

Avista Spokesman Hugh Imhof says those are very high flows for this time of year. But he says the release of the water Monday is not enough for the river to reach flood stage.
