Judge dismisses suit for Ore. teen fatal shooting

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A lawsuit against two sheriff’s deputies who fatally shot an Oregon teenager outside his home has been dismissed after a federal judge ruled the deputies acted reasonably and did not violate the teen’s civil rights.

U.S. District Judge Michael Mosman wrote the shooting was a tragedy because the mother of 18-year-old Lukus Glenn had called police for help when the teen was drunk and suicidal, and the deputies ended up killing him in front of his family.

But Mosman said the federal court is not a “super commissioner” for police that evaluates tactical decisions from a courtroom.

Mosman said the deputies used deadly force to prevent Glenn, who was holding a knife, from hurting someone at his parents’ home in suburban Tigard in September 2006.
