PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A national crackdown on drunken boating is set for the weekend in an effort to reduce injuries and fatalities on the water.

Operation Dry Water 2010 will be the second annual crackdown on boating under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Marine law enforcement officers will be out in full force Friday through Sunday to check on boaters around Oregon and other states.

The National Association of State Boating Law Administrators says that alcohol or drugs contribute to nearly one in five recreational boating fatalities.

The organization launched the annual crackdown last year in partnership with the Coast Guard.
