WASHINGTON, D.C. (AP) — Tracie Stevens has been confirmed by the Senate to chair the National Indian Gaming Commission.
Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said Wednesday that she brings “a wealth of expertise and experience” working on both tribal government and gaming issues.
An enrolled member of the Tulalip Tribes in Washington state, she served most recently as senior adviser to Assistant Interior Secretary for Indian Affairs Larry Echo Hawk.
The gaming commission regulates gaming activities on Indian lands. Its mission is to both shield the tribes from organized crime and to ensure that tribes are the primary beneficiaries of gaming revenue.
