Anthony Lakes Highway paving to begin in Oregon

BAKER CITY, Ore. (AP) -- The Anthony Lakes Highway repaving project is getting under way in the northeast corner of Oregon.

Drivers should expect delays as long as an hour as work continues through the summer on the 10-mile section of highway.

The project includes repaving, sealing and work to reduce rock fall from the Wallowa-Whitman National Forest boundary at Gorham Butte Road to the Ladd Canyon Road junction near Grande Ronde Lake.

The Anthony Lakes Highway is part of the Elkhorn Drive Scenic Byway, the 106-mile route that encircles the Elkhorn Mountains. The byway, which also passes through Sumpter, Granite and Haines, begins and ends in Baker City.
