Cavendish sets sights on Tour's green jersey

LONDON (AP) -- British rider Mark Cavendish says he is ready to win the green jersey at next month's Tour de France.

Cavendish won six stages on last year's Tour but narrowly missed the points title, finishing 10 points behind winner Thor Hushovd of Norway.

Cavendish said Thursday he is physically prepared to go one better and that his Columbia-HTC team is focusing on the green jersey -- known as the sprinter's competition -- at this year's Tour, which runs July 3-25.

The 25-year-old insisted his recent crash at the Tour of Switzerland has not affected his riding.
