Four houses are in the final stages of construction in Ridgefield, where builders are gearing up for the annual Clark County Parade of Homes. in July.

But this year’s showcase of custom-build homes will break from tradition with an affordable green twist.

Homes will be priced at around $300,000, far below the half-million-dollar-and-above luxury houses of years past.

That’s why the 800-member Building Industry Association of Clark County, which sponsors the show, has dubbed this the “Sustainable Attainable” Parade of Homes, said Jim Beriault, of Beriault Entertainment Marketing, the event’s main promoter.

“We thought that was a perfect two-word theme for what we were doing this year,” he said.

Remodeling ideas

The Parade of Homes will open July 9 and run through July 25 in the Pioneer Canyon/Green Gables West community, on the northwest corner of Pioneer and 45th streets. Additional events includes a tour of 25 new homes and building sites at locations around Clark County and a July 24 and 25 tour of remodeled homes.

Remodeling ideas are one of the parade’s main attractions, Beriault said.

“That’s why we really did a 180 this year. We’re building the kind of homes that are selling,” he said.

That includes smaller houses with energy-efficient features, said Ryan Zygar, the 32-year-old president of Vancouver-based Tamarack Homes.

“It’s a brand new way to live,” said Zygar, whose company is building three of the four houses for this year’s event.

New Tradition Homes is building the event’s fourth house, called The Winlock. It features cork and bamboo flooring and countertops made of recycled material.

Beriault said this year’s parade will show off the work and products of more than 120 local contractors and suppliers.

“When you start looking at all the landscapers, plumbers, electricians, paint and lumber supply companies, it’s a lot of people involved,” he said.
