An observance of the 60th anniversary of the start of the Korean War will be held today on Vancouver’s Veterans Affairs campus, just south of Fourth Plain Boulevard.

The observance will begin at 1 p.m. at the Clark County Korean War Veterans Memorial, which was dedicated on Sept. 18.

Wreaths will be placed at the memorial. There will be a recitation of the names of 31 local Korean War veterans who were killed, listed as missing in action or who died in captivity during the war.

The Korean War monument is near the Vietnam War Memorial Garden, which includes a UH 1B “Huey” helicopter on display.

The Korean War started on June 25, 1950, when North Korea invaded South Korea. The fighting halted with an armistice in July 1953, but the war has not officially ended.
