Recovery efforts continued Saturday for Jordan Jaco, 26, of Stevenson, who is presumed drowned in the Columbia River near Stevenson.

According to a news release from the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office, Jaco disappeared about 4:30 p.m. Friday when his inflatable raft capsized in 17 feet of water.

The Skamania County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit and the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team searched the area Friday for 2 1/2 hours in the strong current of the river but could not locate the man.

At 7:30 a.m. Saturday, search efforts resumed with the assistance of a vessel from the Oregon State Police which had side-scan sonar on board.

Dive team members continued with their efforts, as well as the sheriff’s Marine Unit. The Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit also was summoned.

“Jordan was an energetic young man that was loved by everyone he was associated with in the community” said Skamania Undersheriff Dave Cox. “Our hearts go out to his family and friends; he will be sorely missed by all that knew him.”
