Klamath museums looking for new source of funding

KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. (AP) — Klamath County budget cutbacks are forcing the county’s museums to look for a new source of funding.

The Herald and News reports that the museums have to depend solely on the tax on motel rooms and campgrounds since the county took the museums out of the general fund.

Museums manager Todd Kepple says the $90,000 from the rooms tax falls far short of the budget of about $225,000.

He says it remains unclear whether the county may be able to put the museums back in the budget when economics conditions improve.

Museum advisory board member Mark Clark says they are just starting to look at creation of a Museum Heritage Tax District, which would require voter approval.
