KING TV hires new digital media director

SEATTLE (AP) — KING TV has hired digital journalist and entrepreneur Mark Briggs as its new director of digital media.

Briggs joins KING TV from Serra Media LLC, a Seattle company that gives software support to hyper-local media websites.

Briggs is the author of two books on the future of journalism, has worked at Seattle University as an adjunct professor and is a fellow at the Poynter Institute. He previously worked in digital media at The News Tribune of Tacoma and The Herald of Everett.

He grew up in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and earned an undergraduate degree from Gonzaga University. He earned a master’s degree in journalism and mass communications from the University of North Carolina.

In April, KING5.com won a regional Edward R. Murrow award for best website.
