Folks who live in east Clark County can learn to protect themselves, their family and neighbors in a disaster by taking Community Emergency Response Team training.

Thursday evening classes will begin at 6:30 p.m. on March 25 and run through May 13 at the Grove Field Fire Station, 600 N.E. 267th Ave. in Camas.

East County Fire & Rescue is offering the classes, to be taught by the department’s firefighters and paramedics, and paramedics with the Camas Fire Department, according to a bulletin.

CERT students learn to deal with disasters such as earthquakes, terrorist attacks, major fires, tornados and floods.

Topics include emergency medical care, search and rescue techniques, using fire extinguishers and being prepared for disasters.

To sign up, mail a check for $20, made out to East County CERT, to P.O. Box 286, Washougal, WA 98671. Checks must be received no later than March 19.
