County sets urbanization hearings

Public can comment on plans for land near WSU Vancouver

Map

Clark County has scheduled four public sessions on whether to allow urban building on a square mile southeast of Washington State University Vancouver.

The affected area, almost all of it zoned for residential lots of about 6,000 to 7,500 square feet, is bounded to the west by Northeast 50th Avenue, the east by 72nd Avenue, the south by 119th Street and the north by 139th Street.

Also affected: 21 acres on the northeast corner of 50th Avenue and 139th Street.

The expected future projects would be fed by widening the intersection of 119th and 50th and probably adding a stoplight.

Commercial projects would also be allowed on the northwest corner of 119th Street and 72nd Avenue and the southeast corner of 139th Street and 50th Avenue.

The hearings are to consider lifting an “urban hold” on the area. The area was already marked for urbanization by county commissioners’ 2007 growth plan.

The meetings are:

nPlanning Commission work session: 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the sixth-floor training room of the county Public Service Center at 1300 Franklin St.

nPlanning Commission hearing: 6:30 p.m. March 18 in the sixth-floor hearing room of the Public Service Center.

nCounty commissioners work session: 11 a.m. March 24 in the training room.

nCounty commissioners hearing: 10 a.m. March 30 in the hearing room.

Planning Commission votes are advisory; county commissioners’ votes are binding.
