RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Hurricanes traded a pair of veteran players and stockpiled draft picks in separate deals before the NHL deadline.

The Hurricanes sent defenseman Aaron Ward to the Anaheim Ducks for a minor league goalie and a draft choice, then traded forward Scott Walker to the Washington Capitals for another pick.

Ward, 37, had one goal, 10 assists and 54 penalty minutes in his second stint with Carolina. The Hurricanes reacquired him from the Boston Bruins during the summer. Ward was with Carolina during the run to the 2006 Stanley Cup title.

The Hurricanes received 23-year-old goalie Justin Pogge, who has spent this season with Anaheim’s AHL affiliate in San Antonio, and a conditional fourth-round pick in either 2010 or 2011.

Carolina received a seventh-round pick in this year’s draft for Walker.
