WSU Vancouver researcher wins $423,000 award

VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) — An assistant professor at Washington State University Vancouver, WenZhan Song, has won a $423,000 award from the National Science Foundation.

The career award recognizes junior faculty members who show potential of becoming research leaders.

The Vancouver Columbian reports Song is developing better sensors to detect and transmit information from the crater of Mount St. Helens. The technology could be used in other harsh environments.
