Agnes Szavay of Hungary into quarterfinals

MONTERREY, Mexico (AP) — Fifth-seeded Agnes Szavay of Hungary reached the quarterfinals of the Monterrey Open, defeating Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-1.

In another second-round match in the hard-court tournament Thursday, Anastasija Sevastova of Latvia beat Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic 6-1, 6-2.

In late matches, second-seeded Daniela Hantuchova faced Kaia Kanepi of Estonia and fourth-seeded Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia played Sara Errani of Italy. Top-seeded Jelena Jankovic was knocked out in the first round.
