Arkansas-Pine Bluff defeats MVSU 84-68

PINE BLUFF, Ark. (AP) — Terrance Calvin had 25 points and Arkansas-Pine Bluff went to the free-throw line 39 times Thursday as the Golden Lions beat Mississippi Valley State 84-68 in the final regular-season game for both teams.

Arkansas-Pine Bluff (14-15, 14-4 Southwestern) hit 28 of its free-throw attempts, was 4 for 5 on 3-pointers and shot 53.1 percent from the field.

Lebaron Weathers added 15 points, George Davis 14 and Tavaris Washington 10 for the Lions.

Julius Cheeks had 33 points for Mississippi Valley State (9-22, 8-10). Amos Studivant added 12 and Shannon Behling had 10.

Arkansas Pine-Bluff will enter the Southwestern Conference tournament as the No. 2 seed and face the No. 7 seed — either Mississippi Valley State or Alabama A&M (7-10) — in the first round on Wednesday. Alabama A&M has a regular-season game remaining Saturday vs. Grambling State.
