Hudson’s Bay High School senior Lindsey Elhart has been named the recipient of the 2010 Gen. George C. Marshall Youth Leadership Award.

Elhart will be recognized at a public award ceremony at 4 p.m. March 17 at the Marshall House on Officers Row. The Fort Vancouver National Trust and the Marshall Youth Leadership Award selection committee made the announcement Wednesday evening.

As the award recipient, Elhart will receive a $2,500 college scholarship, $500 paid summer internship in the Fort Vancouver National Trust Celebrate Freedom office, a biography of Gen. George C. Marshall, the chance to meet with local elected representatives and the opportunity to participate in Celebrate Freedom events.

The award was established in 2000 and is presented to Clark County high school students who demonstrate leadership, take a stand for the rights of others, serve as a role model, show initiative and motivates others to become involved. The award honors Gen. George C. Marshall, who lived at the Marshall House on Officers Row from 1936 to 1938.

“Lindsey is a natural leader and serves as a role model for those around her. Her smile is infectious, her dedication to her leadership projects is unsurpassed and her integrity is undeniable,” said Janet Elliott, a Hudson’s Bay teacher who nominated Elhart.

Elhart was selected from among 43 nominees.
