Two California residents were arrested near La Center after they led police on a high-speed chase that ended when their stolen pickup truck got stuck in the mud, according to a Washington State Patrol press release.

Shawn Michael Webb, 37, of Camp Connell, Calif., and 41-year-old Donna R. Meyer of Sonora, Calif., were arrested late Wednesday after they allegedly led police on a chase that began in Woodland, changed directions on Interstate 5 and ended in the off-road dirt near the La Center exit.

A Washington State Patrol trooper set out after a 1982 Dodge pickup after he heard a Ridgefield Police officer say he was discontinuing pursuit. The trooper saw the truck pass him on Pacific Avenue and Woodland.

He witnessed the truck travel the wrong way onto the freeway, traveling north in the southbound lanes before making a U-turn.

The truck reached 85 mph on I-5.

Webb allegedly exited and traveled down a country road before driving off-road where he got stuck.

He and Meyer ran from police, only to be chased down on foot, according to the press release.

Webb was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen vehicle, attempting to elude a police vehicle, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, refusal to cooperate with an officer and hit and run unattended. He was lodged at the Cowlitz County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Meyer was arrested on suspicion of accomplice attempting to elude a police vehicle, accomplice to reckless driving and accomplice to reckless endangerment. She was being held on $15,000 bail.

A Clark County Sheriff’s deputy assisting the pursuit ran down Webb.
