WACO, Texas (AP) — Baylor women’s basketball coach says Brittney Griner shouldn’t be defined for throwing a punch and breaking another player’s nose during a game this week.

Griner was suspended for two games for the incident against Texas Tech on Wednesday. She has apologized.

Her coach, Kim Mulkey, says Griner is “a gentle giant” and feels remorse for her actions.

The 6-foot-8 Griner is a 19-year-old freshman well known for her ability to dunk. She punched Texas Tech’s Jordan Barncastle after the two tangled during a game.

Griner will miss the regular season finale Sunday and Baylor’s opening game in the Big 12 tournament.
