Illinois State edges Indiana State 69-65

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Osiris Eldridge and Austin Hill each scored 17 points as No. 3 seed Illinois State overcame an early 12-point deficit to defeat No. 6 seed Indiana State 69-65 Friday night in the quarterfinals of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament.

Jackie Carmichael added 13 for Illinois State (22-9), which has won seven of its last eight. The Redbirds will meet Wichita State in the second semifinal Saturday. Top seed Northern Iowa plays Bradley in the first semifinal.

Dwayne Lathan had a career-high 27 for Indiana State (17-14).

The Sycamores led 46-43 after Lathan hit a 3-pointer with 11:09 left. But Eldridge scored eight points in a 13-0 run that gave Illinois State a 56-46 lead.

Indiana State got within 68-65 when Rashad Reed buried a 3-pointer with 10.1 seconds left, but Lloyd Phillips made one free throw with 9.8 seconds remaining to put it away.
