Stony Brook beats Albany NY 68-59 in AEast tourney

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Tommy Brenton posted a double-double with 13 points and 16 rebounds and Stony Brook beat Albany (N.Y.) 68-59 on Saturday in the first round of the America East Conference tournament.

The top-seeded Seawolves (22-8) advance to the semifinals against winner of Saturday’s second game between No. 4 Boston University-No. 5 Hartford. A Stony Brook win next round would have the Seawolves, the regular season champions, hosting the league championship game next Saturday.

Chris Martin added 15 points and conference Player of the Year Muhammad El-Amin and Bryan Dougher added 12 points apiece for the Seawolves. Brenton, the league’s rebound leader who was named second team All-Conference, recorded his seventh double-double of the season.

Albany (7-25) went 10:15 between field goals as Stony Brook opened a 16-point lead en route to its third win of the season over the Great Danes.
