Tulane holds off Houston 79-76

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Jordan Callahan scored 21 points and Tulane withstood a huge second-half rally to beat Houston 79-76 on Saturday night in both teams’ regular-season finale.

Asim McQueen added 20 points, and Kendall Timmons had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Green Wave (8-21, 3-13 Conference USA), who snapped a seven-game losing streak.

The Green Wave saw a 17-point lead with 17:03 to play vanish over the next 12 minutes. A jumper by Aubrey Coleman gave the Cougars a 67-66 lead with 4:46 to play.

The score was tied four times over the next three minutes before Tulane went on a 5-0 run to put the game on ice at 77-72 with 13 seconds remaining. The Green Wave made 5 of 6 free throw attempts in the final 21 seconds to preserve the win.

Coleman scored 38 points and Kelvin Lewis added 14 for the Cougars (15-15, 7-9), who had won their previous four games against Tulane.
