HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Skyler Diggins scored 21 points to lead No. 6 Notre Dame to a 75-67 victory over No. 16 St. John’s in the quarterfinals of the Big East tournament.

Devereaux Peters added 13 for Notre Dame (27-4), which advances to play the winner of Sunday’s quarterfinal between top-ranked UConn and Syracuse.

Shenneika Smith had 23 points and Da’Shena Stevens had 14 for St. John’s (24-6), seeded fourth in the tournament.

Fifth-seeded Notre Dame held a seven-point lead midway through the first half before the Red Storm went on an 11-0 run over 4 minutes and outscored the Irish 21-8 to finish the half leading 36-32.

But the Irish, who turned the ball over 13 times before the break, responded with a 9-0 run early in the second half to draw even. They then took advantage of a strong transition game to outscore St. John’s 16-4 over the final 6 minutes, limiting the Red Storm to one field goal.
