CLARK: Clackamas women top Penguins, 77-70

Clackamas Community College fended off Clark College in the quarterfinals of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges tournament Sunday at Kennewick, advancing with a 77-70 victory.

The Cougars found themselves in a last-minute battle against a determined Penguins team that refused to give up, closing within four points with less than 30 seconds to play.

Southern Region MVP Rylee Peterson had 21 points and 10 rebounds to lead Clackamas, while Shayla Ball added 18 points and Skyview High School graduate Dayle Powell added 10.

Western Region All-Stars Chawncy McClenan and Renee Tzeo led the Penguins with 19 points and 14 points.

Clackamas (23-4) will face Yakima Valley in today’s semifinals at the Toyota Center. Clark (15-10) moves into the consolation round, facing Everett (18-11) at 2 p.m.

Clark baseball swept in DH

The Clark College baseball team was swept in a doubleheader at George Fox College on Sunday in Newberg, Ore.

The Penguins club team fell to the George Fox JV 1-0 and 9-2.

Blake Babnick was 2 for 3 in the first game loss.

Spencer Antonevich drove in one run in the second game, but the Penguins were hurt by a seven-run George Fox second inning.

Clark (3-6) is scheduled to host the Concordia University JV at 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Clark softball sweeps Oregon

The Clark College softball team posted two wins on Saturday in Eugene, beating the University of Oregon club team 8-7 and 11-2.

Union High grad Jaime Henderson was 3 for 4 with four RBI in the opener.

Union grad Lindsay Sasse pitched a three-hitter in the second game and was also 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBI.

Clark will play at a 12-team inter-region tournament on Saturday and Sunday at VGSA in Vancouver. Clark will play Edmonds at 2 p.m. and Bellevue at 4 p.m. on Saturday, and then take on Grays Harbor at 9 a.m. Sunday followed by Chemeketa at 1 p.m.
