Man arrested after crash on I-5 bridge

— A 25-year-old Vancouver man allegedly caused a backup on the Interstate 5 Bridge about midnight Sunday when he traveled the wrong way, lost control, sideswiped two cars and collided with a third, police said.

Nicholas Crynes was arrested on suspicion of DUI for allegedly causing the collision, according to a press release from the Washington State Patrol.

Crynes was traveling north in the southbound lanes in his 2006 Subaru when the four-car crash occurred. Crynes and the driver of another vehicle, 20-year-old Marcus Taylor of Bothell, were transported to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland.

Crynes was transported to the hospital with injuries to his head, neck and back. Taylor suffered injuries to his head and back and sustained lacerations on his arm. Neither was listed at the hospital Monday night.

A third driver, Margaret Clisby, was taken to Southwest Washington Medical Center with injuries to her spleen, liver and kidney. She was listed in satisfactory condition Monday night, a nursing supervisor said.

According to the press release, Crynes sideswiped Taylor’s 1989 Lincoln and a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder, then slid sideways and was struck by Clisby’s 1999 Pontiac Montana before slamming into the barrier on the side of the bridge. The three other vehicles came to a rest in the southbound lanes.

Three of the four vehicles were totaled, according to the press release.
