EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Police arrested a 31-year-old man accused of trying to start a fire at a Eugene church.

The Register-Guard newspaper reports officers responded to the Eugene Faith Center late Monday and found church security guards struggling to detain Mathew Wayne Rossi.

Police are investigating whether the suspect is responsible for a series of suspected arson fires in west Eugene between Friday and Monday.

Three of the fires damaged Eugene Faith Center property.

Rossi was in the Lane County Jail Tuesday on charges of assault, attempted arson and burglary.

Bail has not been set.
