Search for hiker to continue Wednesday

Mountains, lake searched for Portland woman

The search for a 24-year-old Portland woman missing since Thursday evening in the Columbia River Gorge will continue Wednesday.

On Tuesday, 40 ground search workers and two helicopter crews covered 12 square miles looking for Kathrine Huether, 24, who has been missing since last Thursday. Divers searched Gillette Lake with no success, according to a news release from the Skamania County Sheriff's Office.

The search was to be suspended at nightfall.

Deputies believe Huether is lost or stranded, though they have not ruled out foul play. On the afternoon she disappeared, Skamania County received a report of a man exposing himself near the area where Huether set out to hike.
