NEW YORK (AP) — New York City Marathon champion Meb Keflezighi has withdrawn from next week’s NYC Half-Marathon because of a knee injury.

Keflezighi said Wednesday he missed some training time because of left knee soreness. He’s preparing for the Boston Marathon in April.

Keflezighi became the first American man since 1982 to win the NYC Marathon in November. He has not raced since.

The field for the NYC Half-Marathon on March 21 includes marathon world record holder Haile Gebrselassie of Ethiopia and two-time NYC Marathon winner Marilson Gomes dos Santos of Brazil.
