‘Lunch Buddies’ sought for May 14 Dozer Day

A day before the general public flocks to the popular Dozer Day each spring, hundreds of Vancouver elementary school pupils and their adult Lunch Buddies get run of the place.

Problem is, not every once-a-week adult buddy can make the date, which can leave their pupil partner out of the fun.

That’s why the call is out for new helpers to be “Buddy for a Day,” so that every two children are matched to one adult for supervision.

This year’s event is Friday, May 14. Adults will meet their children at the site, the Fisher Quarry off state Highway 14 at Southeast 192nd Avenue, by 10:30 a.m. They will enjoy gravelly fun, rotating through several stages, including a free lunch, ending at 1 p.m.

To sign up for “Buddy for a Day,” contact Barbara Nordstrom with the Vancouver School District Foundation, at 360-313-4725 or barbara.nordstrom@vansd.org. Background check forms are available from her, or at http://www.vansd.org (partnerships/volunteering, volunteer opportunities, clearance process).
