A downtown Vancouver business group and city officials have teamed up to ease the headache of setting up shop throughout Vancouver.

The resulting pre-lease program aims to relieve business owners from rounds of one-on-one meetings, said Lee Rafferty, executive director of the 110-member Vancouver’s Downtown Association. A collaborative discussion is set up instead.

The program brings together representatives of city planning, building, fire and permitting departments. They will meet with business owners for a walk-though of their proposed downtown location.

“We needed to have a one-stop solution,” she said.

The group worked with city staff for about six months on the program, which is not limited to businesses interested in opening up a business in the downtown core.

“It’s a tool that will serve businesses throughout the city,” said Rafferty, former co-owner of Spanky’s Family Consignment shop in Vancouver.
