Buoyed by a report showing 2009 was the safest year on Washington roadways since 1955, seven Clark County law enforcement agencies will target impaired drivers Friday and again March 20.

The Clark County Target Zero Task Force will emphasize DUI patrols as part of an ongoing statewide effort to achieve no traffic deaths and disabling injuries by 2030.

On Friday, the Washington State Patrol, Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Vancouver, Battle Ground and Washougal police departments will key in on drunken drivers. The extra emphasis amounts to 11 additional officers.

The Camas Police Department will join the effort March 20, contributing 12 officers.

The Washington State Patrol announced the DUI patrols in a news release, saying, “There is still more to do and these emphasis patrols are an effort to improve safety within Clark County and the state of Washington.”
