A car driven by a 68-year-old man struck three boys, two on bicycles, in a crosswalk Thursday morning near the intersection of Southeast 136th Avenue and McGillivray Boulevard, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

The three boys were transported by ambulance to Southwest Washington Medical Center with minor injuries, according to Jim Flaherty, a Vancouver Fire Department spokesman. The incident occurred at about 7:50 a.m.

The motorist, Leonard Leger, was westbound at a stop sign on McGillvray at 136th Avenue, according to a police news release. His view was blocked by another vehicle as he started to turn and didn’t see the children, ages 10 and 11, in the crosswalk.

“It happened at a low rate of speed,” Commander Scott Bieber said.

An investigation found Leger was at fault for failing to yield, but he was not cited, according to the news release.

Parents were provided with Leger’s insurance information. Alcohol did not play a role in the collision.
